What is Couples Counselling/Relationship Therapy?

If you’d like to talk about how you can improve your current relationship or manage a separation, you may find it useful to talk to a trained Relationship Therapist. I have undertaken an additional 2 year Post Grad Diploma specifically for working with Couples and Psychosexual Work.

Couples counselling can help you to take time to see your relationship from a fresh perspective. You can discuss your feelings, values and expectations and it can help you to communicate more clearly with each other. You and your partner have an opportunity to explore your roles, desires and behaviour and to think about what you want from your relationship and what changes you can make to improve the situation. Couples counselling gives you the space to explore in confidence, complex and difficult issues. It helps you to deal better with tension and conflict in the relationship and can help you with your sexual relationship. Couples counselling can also help you to decide if you wish to continue in your relationship or if you agree to separate. In this case, the therapy can support you both in managing an ending.

Relationship therapy explores the dynamic between you and your partner and how to improve your communication skills. Through the therapy you will be able to explore any expectations you may have about what you both want from the relationship, if there are any historical issues, past hurts or the impact of infidelity. Therapy helps you both to understand the others’ perspective and to acknowledge and appreciate each other.

Why Therapy

There are times in all our lives when we need time and space to explore our difficulties and challenges and to gain a better understanding of these to enable us to grow and move forward. Talking therapy is becoming an increasingly effective way of dealing with personal problems and challenges. It helps us understand why we behave the way we do and is centred around finding ways to help us change unhelpful patterns that generally stop us from getting on in our lives. During therapy, you are encouraged to explore your thoughts and feelings in a confidential and impartial environment, which will help you to recognise any repeating patterns and allow you to make positive changes in your life. This is a safe and confidential space where you can take time to think, talk and reflect on any emotionally challenging issues, together with your therapist. People seek therapy for a wide range of issues such as.........

  • Stress and anxiety
  • Panic Attacks
  • Low self-esteem or self confidence
  • Depression
  • Work related problems
  • Addiction
  • Relationship Problems
  • Sexual Problems
  • Sexual Identity Problems

  • Loss: Bereavement, Redundancy, Divorce
